Why generate a hash
A hash is a fixed-length fingerprint of any input — change one character and the entire hash changes unpredictably. That makes hashes useful for verifying that a file or piece of text hasn't been altered, without needing to compare the whole thing byte by byte.
This tool computes five common algorithms at once, right in your browser, using the browser's built-in cryptographic functions for the SHA family plus a compact MD5 implementation for the one algorithm the Web Crypto API doesn't support.
